Hello World #5

This must be my fifth or so foray into blogging. I had taken up some interesting topics to blog about in the past, had too many domains, and changed one too many times between various platforms. I started with blogger and have completed a full circle and come back to it. I cannot deny that I had fun, setting up all those sites, and I learnt a lot of stuff that came in handy later. However, sometimes you just want to get on with the story you want to tell people. The medium rarely matters anymore. It is the content that deserves the most attention. I might be wrong in saying this, but I am willing to bet on it enough to do away with my old platforms.

The stories I write are for me, more than anybody else. However, it may, in time, prove to be interesting to one of you too. I hope that it happens soon enough. :)

High throughput Site to site VPN on commodity hardware - an adventure with Wireguard, bonding and ECMP

At work, I recently had an interesting challenge - we needed a high throughput site to site VPN between two of our co-located DCs. The existing one was not cutting it with the increasing demand for bandwidth every week. Normally I'd opt for the tried and tested IPsec tunnels using strongswan. What follows is a brief write up on the attempts to push decent amount of traffic on WG - enough to meet our needs. Here comes the 'interesting' part of the challenge - One side only has 1G LAN - the final ISP uplink is 10G - but the server is only connected to a 1G switch. Review: The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini My rating: 5 of 5 stars Goodreads is such a strange place. It has given me much happiness, of course. I have marveled at the fact that someone halfway across the globe can feel the same way I do about a book and it's characters. Yet, it is sometimes almost painful when someone doesn't like the book you liked and for precisely the same reasons you liked it. I have not read many books. I am young and in an engineering course to boot, so there is not much time to indulge in leisurely reading. I have read about a book a month for the past two and read three in the february, and 12 in January. You get the idea. I cannot criticize effectively, with neither the academic bent that some goodreaders are gifted with, nor with the reader's review some so eloquently write. Rajan My rating: 5 of 5 stars TLDR; If you want to understand the '08 crisis without getting bogged down in jargon, this is the book to go. Also, Dr. Rajan makes perceptive observations about India and it's politics, governance, and social security. This book aims to narrate the various factors that contributed to the global economic crisis of '08. he writing is lucid, clear and flows smoothly. Dr. Rajan explains Sub prime mortgage crisis very well, and is clear cut in his reasoning as to why the Government intervening (or not) was bad. He doesn't paint anything to be a panacea, and doesn't bat too much against the bankers, and not for too much regulation either.
